The lifeboat station at St Peter Port is one of only four in the Channel Islands. Operating for over 200 years, the crews of the all weather lifeboat have been honoured with several awards for gallantry.

The Spirit of Guernsey was brought on station in 1997. It carries a powered Y boat that can be launched and recovered by a lightweight crane to enable rescues close to shore. Its propellers are protected so it can take ground without damage.
